A 24-year-old man has pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and leaving the scene of an injury accident for running over a Lakewood Police Department K-9 officer and speeding away.

Enrique Arellano also pleaded guilty last week to a third charge of committing a crime of violence for hitting a police agent as he attempted to elude law enforcement in a stolen car, according to a news release from Pam Russell, spokeswoman for Jefferson County District Attorney Pete Weir.

In May, Lakewood police spotted a stolen Subaru in the parking lot of Crossland Economy Suites, at 715 Kipling St. Police then saw Arellano and his co-defendant, Arlita Flores, walking toward the stolen car, the news release said.
