Former Lakewood police officer charged with sexual assault
Denver police have arrested a former Lakewood police officer for investigation of sexual assault while on the force, authorities say.
Randall Shaun Bulter, 37, is being held in the Denver jail, according to Denver County Court records. He is scheduled to appear for a Thursday afternoon advisement hearing in Denver County Court.
Butler allegedly committed the sexual assault on Nov. 17, according to court records.
“The appalling and inexcusable conduct in no way embodies the Lakewood Police Department’s mission ‘to serve and protect with integrity, intelligence and initiative,’” Lakewood police Chief Daniel McCasky said in a Thursday press release.
The investigation and prosecution of the case is of the utmost importance to Lakewood police, McCasky said.
“Our thoughts are with the victim,” he said. “The arrest of Butler is demoralizing to our organization.”
When Lakewood police learned of Denver’s investigation against Butler he was immediately placed on administrative leave. Butler, who was hired as a police officer in January 2013, resigned shortly after he was suspended, the news release says.
Lakewood police are reviewing any allegations of possible misconduct against Butler while on duty, the news release says.
“We are asking anyone with information on Butler’s actions while employed with the Lakewood Police Department to please call our tip-line at 303-763-6800,” police say.
